Fingerprint
Identification Devices
Description
Holographic Optical Elements (HOEs) enable electro-optic,
fingerprint capture devices. These small footprint devices
produce high-contrast fingerprint ridges, valleys, and even
sweat pores on ridges that can be seen with the naked eye.
Prism-based
input systems using Total Internal Reflection are used in
many fingerprint systems to produce the high-contrast images
necessary for matching. Unfortunately, these prisms
also introduce dimensional compression and astigmatism in
the image before capture by a CCD camera. A single,
properly designed HOE can eliminate both of these problems
and add further functionality. These optical images
are stored digitally and later used for verification and identification.
Comparison against previously stored digital fingerprint records
or even ink-based, fingerprint cards produce high confidence
level matching.
