There are two general
diffraction grating technologies:
Surface Relief (SR) Gratings and Volume Phase Holographic
Gratings (VPHGs). These are depicted
in the figure to the right.
Our
flagship products are called Dickson® gratings. These are an enhanced form of VPHGs
using Wasatch
Photonics’ patented technologies
and proprietary know-how.

Dickson®
gratings outperform all other grating technologies because
of their high diffraction efficiencies in both S &
P polarizations.
To
the right are representative graphs for Dickson®
gratings used in DWDM applications.
These show very high Diffraction Efficiency and
extremely low Polarization Dependent Loss.
This
is why Dickson®
gratings are ideal for every application requiring polarization
insensitivity and maximum use of incoming photons.

Dichromated gelatin (DCG) is the recording media of choice. Dickson® gratings, Volume Phase Holographic Gratings (VPHGs), and Holographic Optical Elements (HOEs) are produced for spectral ranges of 350-2400nm in sizes from <6mm to >400mm.
